Top Eight for Taite – 2017 Prize Fighters

Independent Music NZ has announced the eight Taite Music Prize finalists for 2017.

Named after the late music journalist Dylan Taite, the Taite Music Prize recognises outstanding creativity for an entire collection of music contained on one album. The top eight albums were picked by members of the music industry from a long list of around 70 albums.

That list was no doubt affected by rule changes implemented this year which meant that artists not likely to be in Auckland and available to attend the award presentation night were ineligible.

The winner will be announced at The Civic’s Wintergarden in Auckland on April 18. Also presented on the night will be the IMNZ Classic Record Award and the new Best Independent Debut Award, celebrating emerging talent.
