Kiwese’s Orchestra Of Spheres Doco

Kristen Ng not only runs NZ/China music, art and culture website Kiwese.co.nz, but also just released a 5-part documentary on Wellingtonian band Orchestra of Spheres‘ tour of China.

Originally from Wellington, Ng has been based in Chengdu for almost two years, working on Kiwese to create links between NZ and China’s music and art scenes.

In October 2015 she ran the inaugural ‘Kiwese Presents…’ tour,  booked, promoted and tour managed by her. Orchestra Of Spheres were joinedon their nine-date tour of the country by fellow Wellingtonian, performance artist  Lady Lazer Light.

The series features tour diary narrative, live footage from Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming and Dali, interviews with local acts Baxian Fandian, Death Narcissist, South Acid MiMi Dance Team and Su, candid encounters with fans, bands, labels and venues from music scenes around the country and on the road documentation of China’s food, transport and everyday life.

The diverse blend of Chinese and English voices are supported with bilingual subtitles and translation, while a distinctly New Zealand sense of humour is present throughout. Orchestra of Spheres and Lady Lazer Light embrace the bizarre, defy the monotonous, and espouse the message that to be weird is to be wonderful.
