Mahoney Harris: We Didn’t Feel Alone

Waiheke resident Mahoney Harris has been writing and playing music since 1996, beginning while in New York, relocating to Australia, and then finally back home. Hers is a very gentle, nice and natural, unpretentious form of expression – she sings and plays acoustic guitar. Recorded and produced by Tom Healy, who also contributed electric guitar and effects – there is one co-write among the nine tracks (Miss You) with Wayne Bell, who also contributed drums, percussion, vibraphones and acoustic guitar. Matthias Jordan adds his keyboards to three tracks, from Andrew Keoghan violin and keys on one song and Ben King adds backing vocals on Miss You, one of the album’s strongest tracks. The album is consciously timeless and a very pleasant listen – as illustrated within Miss You – “I’m older now, no smoke and mirrors…” Harris’s voice isn’t strong, but like the music is unforced and relaxing, sweet without being sickly. Simultaneously youthful and mature it is, if anything, too humble.
