Miromiro: Kembé Falls

Miromiro: Kembé Falls

Usually, it’s pointless to compare local artists to overseas ones, but credit where it’s due. For Wellington artist Miromiro, let’s just treat Boards Of Canada as a reference.

Self-described as “post-synthwave, downtempo, techno-leftist…” one could say that’s way too specific for general music consumers, so let’s call it electronica.

Miromiro mastermind Ashok Jacob creates music that flows smoothly with bird sounds, vinyl scratches, and chiming sonic choruses. The record is mellow and beautiful – more layers are exposed on repeat listens – surely the best kind of aural present. Downtempo but totally upbeat!
