Devilskin: We Rise

This album’s already been to the top of the charts so hardly needs my 10 cents worth. Safe to say we’ve been waiting a very long time for an album such as Devilskin ‘s ‘We Rise’ – an unapologetically rock album (with a distinctively metal edge), but primarily an absolutely outstanding female vocalist who holds her own in the genre and can do the ‘metal’ thing of sounding like a guy singing! That is definitely something spesh (and not for the faint-lunged).

Recorded at the late York Street Studios by Clint Murphy, the album’s scene-shaking chart success has brought recognition and they deserve much more. You may have missed this phenomenon, if you don’t listen to a ‘rock radio’ station, and Devilskin are maybe even a little-too metal for those. Veteran metal dude Paul Martin handles bass and BVs, with Nail on guitar and Nic Martin on drums and piano. Adding a touch of Evanescence to the line up is the mighty Jennie Skulander on vocals. This is a quality release, ignore and you will remain ignorant.
