North Shore Schools Songwriting Competition

North Shore Schools Songwriting Competition

With this year’s NZ Music Month focused on ‘Community and Collaboration’, Auckland’s Depot Sound is running a North Shore schools songwriting competition during May.

The competition is open to all North Shore intermediate and secondary school musicians and bands to enter. Entrants have the chance to get their songs listened to and judged by a panel of music industry legends.

Winners of each division – intermediate and secondary – will have their songs professionally produced and recorded at Depot Sound in Devonport. The work must be an original popular song – definitely not a cheeky arrangement or adaptation of a traditional non-copyright work, or any other original work. Judging will take place in June, with winners notified by email.

“We’re giving the winner of each division two days of studio time and professional mentoring,” says Depot Sound studio manager and audio engineer, Noah Page. “The runner-up of each division will get one day in the studio.”

Judging will take place in June, with winners notified by email. For more information on terms and conditions and to submit an original song to the online form before May 31, visit Depot.org.nz
