Ōtautahi’s RDU 98.5FM is marking the occasion of turning 45 by doing ‘something bold, creative and innovative’, as well as, umm, salty. The station has launched a crowdfunding campaign via Boosted to help build a new music studio and music hub for Christchurch musicians.
To be called Saltbox Studios, the new recording and production facilities will provide local Ōtautahi musicians with the opportunity of educational programmes, to upskill, rehearse and also record.
RDU 98.5FM director James Meharry says there is a clear purpose in mind. “Our motivations to build this facility are driven by the needs we see around us every day. We must develop the capability of RDU beyond broadcasting. We know this is the right decision and the time has come to make our move.”
The Boosted campaign will be running until November 18.
