NZ On Air Music have released the results of the inaugural NewMusic Pan-Asian focus round for single-based funding.
15 out of 107 eligible applications will receive up to $10,000 in funding to support the recording, video, and promotion costs of new songs from Pan-Asian artists,
50% of eligible applications came from female-identifying, mixed-group and gender-diverse artists, while the applications also showed a wide range of Pan-Asian heritage and representation.
Among the 15 chosen there are seven first-time funded recipients as well as six songs featuring Pan-Asian languages. The 15 works help reflect the many communities within Aotearoa, as well as adding to the wider cultural music mix that local audiences will be able to experience.
The songs were chosen by a panel made up of producer Christian Tjandrawinata, Jess Fu (Village Sounds), Namnita Kumar (RadioActive), Rui Kamata (Bassment), Savina Fountain (Big Fan), Swap Gomez (Aotearoa Music Producers Guild/SAE) and Casey Yeoh (NZ On Air).
