Changes Ahead for Devonport’s Depot Sound

After six years as Depot Sound studio manager and head engineer Dave Rhodes is moving on from the boutique Auckland studio at the end of February. He will be replaced by Morgan Allen who has been his 2IC in recent years.

In his time at Devonport’s Depot Sound, Rhodes has overseen some huge changes including designing and building the new control room for Studio One and now the current Studio Two renovations. Under his guidance the studio has become much more integrated with the wider Depot Artspace creative community, allowing greater collaboration with North Shore community initiatives like Devonstock, and various songwriting and recording workshops.

Rhodes is shifting his home base to the Coromandel but says he expects to remain a regular at Depot Sound and will still be available for multi-day booking work there. Having worked alongside him for the last four years Morgan Allen has his own impressive list of production and engineering / recording credits, as well as being a widely experienced live sound engineer.
