Over 300 secondary school ensembles from across Aotearoa will be competing in the Chamber Music Contest 2022. Supported by the New Zealand Community Trust, this annual contest provides a platform for Kiwi secondary school students to perform.
District rounds will be held in 14 centres from Whangārei to Invercargill, and will run from June 7-17, with regional finals on July 2 at the Saint Heliers Church & Community Centre in Auckland, the Adam Concert Room in Wellington, and The Piano in Christchurch. The national finals will be staged on August 6 in the Auckland Town Hall.
Running alongside this contest, the 2022 NZCT Chamber Music Digital Challenge will provide the same opportunity but via a digital platform, so that groups will be able to participate despite any travel or limitations.
For both competitions, there will be national winners. From the pool of submissions, up to eight groups will be announced as semi-finalists from which the prize winners will be chosen. In addition, each ensemble will receive an adjudicator’s report.
