Butter Factory To Introduce Security Scanning

Whangārei pub and live music venue The Butter Factory will introduce ID scanning at the door in an effort to stop unruly punters. The move comes after a man died in an incident outside the venue last weekend.

Dubbed ‘Stan the Scanner’, the technology will be used by security staff at the entrance allowing them to scan for fake IDs, take photos, and collect data on punters, which will then be stored for two days.

If patrons cause an incident after being scanned in, their information will be held and they risk being banned from the venue and/or others in Whangarei. The venue say that this scanning technology, which is used widely in Australia, will only be used on nights deemed to be of higher risk.
