Applications Open For 2021 Girls Rock Tāmaki Makaurau

Applications Open For 2021 Girls Rock Tāmaki Makaurau

Applications are open for the 2021 Girls Rock Tāmaki Makaurau, to be held at SAE Auckland in January 2021.

Girls Rock! Aotearoa is a music-based school holiday programme for young women, transgender and gender non-conforming youth aged 12-17. Launched in 2018, music is the medium of choice to empower, build confidence, self-reliance, and practice tolerance and respect.

Those attending learn instruments, form bands, write original songs and perform at a showcase, all guided by professional musicians in a women-led environment. Alongside collaborative learning, participants will take part in workshops about DIY merchandise, mindfulness, and performance skills. Each day they’ll enjoy lunchtime performances from local artists: the 2020 camp included performances by Paige, CHAII, and Nothing But Hole.

Camp week runs from 18-22 January with the showcase scheduled for the afternoon of January 23. The facilities at SAE Institute in Parnell will allow GRTM to introduce an Electronic Music stream so participants will have the new option to learn how to produce MIDI music on Digital Audio Workstations (DAW’s).

There are 40 placements on offer. Applications are open until November 1, or until all spots have been filled. You can find out more/apply here.
