Applications are open To The Front Te Papaioea 2025, taking place at The Stomach in Palmerston North from 27-30 September.
Presented by Girls Rock Aotearoa, To The Front Te Papaioea is a four-day programme for youth aged 12-17 who identify as women, intersex, trans, takatāpui, queer, or gender diverse. It’s all about music, creativity, empowerment, and having fun. No musical experience is needed.
Participants will learn to play instruments, form bands, write original songs, and perform in a showcase, all with the guidance of professional musicians in a inclusive environment. In addition to collaborative learning, they’ll take part in workshops on DIY merchandise, songwriting, and performance skills, while enjoying afternoon performances from local artists.
To The Front is a paid holiday programme with an allocation of financial assistance available for low-income families and sponsored places for Māori and Pasifika youth. Participants based in Whanganui will have the option of a free shuttle service each day. See the website for more information. Mentor and volunteer applications are also being sought.
