The 2021 Rep Your Beats competition came to a head on August 14 at the Māngere Arts Centre in Auckland. Congratulation to the winners who were headed by Edy, with second place claimed by Izzybeats and third going to Spewer From Outside.

The 2021 finalists also included iamtheofficial, Armani, Tipsy Bounce, Creation Kit & Bomar; with Poetik, Ricky Paul, KayDub, D.Love and Pieter T all tasked with being judges.

The hope for ‘Rep Your Beats’ is to bring out the bedroom producer/beatmakers, providing an opportunity to expose their musical gifts and at the same time, network with others with similar talents. Dating back to 2016 past winners include KayDub, Anka, Elkco and Peter Pedro.

After managing a third place a few years back, Edy was obviously determined enough to give this year’s competition some olympic-style attention.

“Two weeks of making beats every night leading up to this event… I needed to prove to myself that I can do something like this, and now I have. Set your mind to something and the sky is the limit! Massive shout out to all of the people who I’ve been bugging to critique my beats for the past few weeks. Couldn’t have done it without you!”
