Model Train Wreck: Model Train Wreck

Model Train Wrecks bio describes the band as, “…a mutant swinging love-child of David Lynch and Imelda May. A brew of distorted sax, ’50s twang, and indie boogie.” Actually the sound is a tad more polite than that makes it sound. Not wild and raucous, in fact this album is an absolute corker of a left-field pop gem. You could compare it with The Muttonbirds, but you’ll also detect hints of the Beach Boys in the lush harmonies. There’s definitely a touch of swing in the mix, and it’s so great to hear brass in a rock band format – love it!

The album is a very polished product, the mix is top-notch and with mastering by Dale Cotton you’re in safe hands. There’s some excellent songwriting on show, with quirky humourous lyrics, catchy hooks and chord progressions that aren’t too cliché but still easy on the ear. The band members know how to play, too. If you can’t find a copy of this CD at your local rekkid store (wow, remember when most towns had a rekkid store?) then search it up online so you can be the one telling your friends that you heard them first.
