Wild Creations 2018

Following Wild Creations’ pilot last year, the partnership between Creative New Zealand and the Department of Conservation will continue this year.

Wild Creations blends conservation and creativity by providing funding to artists to create work inspired by the people, places and stories of Aotearoa’s cultural and environmental heritage.

The work of the talented artists that take part in Wild Creations is giving DOC opportunities to connect Kiwis with conservation stories through art.

Applications close August 24, for a project to be completed between December 2018 and June 2019.

Wild Creations stems from an artist-in-residence programme of the same name that ran from 2002-2012. Participants of that included musicians and composers Dudley Benson, Jordan ReyneRosy Tin Teacaddy, Alison Isadora and Alistair Fraser.

For six weeks during 2010 Rosy Tin Teacaddy escaped to the Rotorua Lakes district. New Zealand’s most volatile landscape, following the devastating Tarawera volcanic eruption of 1886. They spent their time embarking on expeditions; visiting relics, historical heroes, and trekking. What resulted was the full-length album ‘All Mountains Are Men’, written and recorded entirely in isolation at a cottage by the lake. The sonic palette includes layers of field-recordings!
