Of the 240 initial artists released for inclusion at SXSW 2019, a record-setting number of eight NZ bands has been invited to play.
The percentage of band count vs country population puts Aotearoa at the top of the world’s music business in terms of live showcase selections for the annual event, which will take place in Austin, Texas from March 11-17.
According to the SXSW spokesman there are over 150 other Kiwi bands which applied later than these early starters still being evaluated for possible selection – with applications closing October 25.
