Victoria University’s Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) has announced that Professor Sally-Jane Norman will assume the role of NZSM Director.
Professor Norman is a New Zealander who is currently Professor of Performance Technologies Co-Director at the University of Sussex. Norman studied her Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts at Canterbury University. After this, she earned a Doctorat de 3ème cycle and Doctorat D’Etat from the Institut D’Etudes Théâtrales, Université de Paris III.
Norman has worked with Newcastle University, collaborated with the French Ministry of Culture, and directed a conference at the Louvre throughout her academic career. Norman has also assumed visiting roles with the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in Beijing, the University of Peking, and the Aalto University in Finland.
Victoria Pro Vice-Chancellor of Humanities and Social Sciences Professor Jennifer Windsor says, “It’s an exciting time for Professor Norman to join Victoria and we’re delighted that she brings a commitment to music in all its forms and to its creative and civic power.”
