The winners for the 2022 NZ Children’s Music Awards were announced on Sunday 15 May at a family-friendly event at Auckland venue, the Tuning Fork.
Celebrating music written and recorded for children, the event included the presentation of four awards.
Winners of the APRA Best Children’s Song were Kath Bee, Ryan Beehre, Luke Epapara for E Tū Tāngata – Stand Together, performed by Mika Elley ft. Kurnel MC. Kath Bee has previously won the same award in 2020. She was commissioned by E Tū Tāngata to write a song to add to their kete of resources for primary/intermediate schools, tackling ‘tall poppy syndrome’ in Aotearoa.
The RMNZ Te Kaipuoro Waiata Tamariki Toa / Best Children’s Music Artist winner was Music With Michal, for her song Summer Days. Christchurch singer-songwriter Michal Bush has also previously won the award for Best Children’s Song (in 2021) and had an exceptional four nominations this year.
Winner of the NZ On Air Best Children’s Music Video award was Chris Lam Sam for his Song About Nothing video, produced by Mukpuddy Animation.
