New to our ears perhaps but not new to making music, Parabola West toured with UK-based band Dreamfield before moving to NZ in 2003. Originally named Amy Tucker and hailing from New Jersey in the U.S., she only launched herself as a solo artist last year and this lovely six-track EP is her debut release. Her bright, fully-fledged songs remind me of Taylor Swift – and funnily enough there is a reasonable physical resemblance as well.
There’s a lot showcased within these six warm and catchy songs, ranging from epic pop to a folky feel and piano ballads. All self-penned, produced by Matt Chapman (who also provided backing vocals, along with Helen and Mark Bardiem).
Fans of Tori Amos, Sarah McLaughlan and even Adele could do well to investigate this artist – and keep an eye on her rising star. She has talent, experience, her own voice and the necessary patience.
