Bloodshot are a young up and coming band from Lower Hutt, Wellington, who have already garnered a small, loyal fanbase, and this is their debut 6-track EP. Their music is in the hard rock/heavy metal vein, and they really show some promise. Opening with the sub-Tool sounding title track (ditto track two ‘ – although the vocals need a bit more development), the rest gives way to a dynamic, varied bunch of tunes. The 4-piece band comprises Tyler Wright on guitar & vocals, Jesse Love on lead guitar, Jackson Herman on bass and Jordan Hotton on drums, and they all share songwriting duties. They don’t give away much on the Facebook page, but they’ve worked hard on getting their EP out. The only disappointment really is that they’ve uploaded 5 of the 6 tracks to YouTube – but there’s no visuals! They’ve posted footage of Jesse playing along to a Bring Me The Horizon track (The House Of Wolves), which is cool in the way you can see a talented guitarist at work, but why not post their own stuff?! I believe there’s footage being collected for imminent upload, so maybe I’m just jumping the gun on wanting to see more… Their influences are contemporary; those already mentioned and the likes of Asking Alexandria, core Soundgarden… Recorded by Jared Wilkinson, and mixed by him and the band. For a first release, it’s humble as well as competent. Can’t wait to see/hear what else may come from this bunch of clearly talented lads. A bit of spit and polish, and get some mates to cobble together some slide shows at least!
