After 20 years as Principal Partner of Australia-based entertainment law firm Media Arts Lawyers, Stephen King this week announced the launch of his new firm King Media Law.
Media Arts Lawyers, which previously also had an office in Auckland, ceased trading on July 1st, 2026. In what the remaining MAL web page describes as ‘an important milestone in its evolution’ each of the five partners will continue their legal practices through four new business entities.
King says the time felt right to step back from management of the firm to focus more fully on representing his current and future clients. King Media Law is based in North Melbourne.
“Joining forces with David Vodicka, Media Arts Lawyers became the leading music and entertainment law firm in Australia with a goal of assisting its clients to achieve success both domestically and internationally, as well as achieving its own success by being recognised as one of Billboard’s Top 100 law firms in 2024 and 2025.
“I had an amazing time building Media Arts Lawyers into a firm where we could represent and help clients to achieve success across all areas of the entertainment industry. I want to sincerely thank the amazing team of lawyers and staff who helped make the firm what it became, many of which have gone on to hold significant management positions in the music industry, and which is a testament to the calibre of the team that Media Arts Lawyers built.
“My true passion, however, has always been for representing and assisting my clients to grow their brands and business and stepping out of a larger firm will give me the freedom to focus fully on direct client representation.”
