Animal Party: Drifting EP

This debut EP combines emotion, rock and soaring vocals to deliver a collection of songs that sound much more like something from seasoned music veterans. Animal Party is made up of members from The Jury and The Saints and Lookin Up, with the unmistakable voice of Jesse Smith evident from the outset.

In opening track Drifting the guitar sets up the tone of the song through the use of delay and reverb-soaked sound, while a steady, yet unconventional drum rhythm helps you focus on the lyrics – “Kill off your dreams, they’ll only make you disappointed.”

Drifting, suitably, has a slower groove, then Weight sets an upbeat drum beat that helps provide contrast.

Each song has a familiar sound, which helps to connect the entire EP, and indicates to me that Animal Party has a great understanding of its own sound and how to explore it in different ways.

The EP tips its hat at the likes of Deftones, Blindspott and I Am Giant, while still sounding completely original and full of catchy hooks.
