NZ Music Charts Now To Include Bandcamp

From the beginning of December the Official Top 40 and IMNZ charts will include physical and digital sales from Bandcamp.

“Bandcamp has become a popular destination for local music fans, especially those looking to explore the full depth of independent and innovative music available out there today,” says Recorded Music NZ Data Manager Paul Kennedy.

“Being able to fully reflect that diversity of music in both the Official Top 40 and the IMNZ charts is something we are very pleased to be able to do.”

Kennedy compiles the charts every Friday using data collected by RadioScope. From December 2 the chart contributors include Bandcamp, Spotify, Southbound, Google Play, Flying Out, Manna Music, Marbecks, MyMusic Taupo, Real Groovy, Rough Peel, Slowboat, The Warehouse, MightyApe, iTunes, JB HiFi, Apple Music and Xbox.

Local indie acts in particular will benefit from the future inclusion of Bandcamp figures, the music streaming and sales platform being favoured by independent artists and fans alike. The move follows the inclusion of streaming in the singles charts in 2014 and the album charts in June this year.
