Locations: Palmerston North and Whanganui
Duration: One year full time. Palmerston North, Wairarapa and Whanganui.

Entry criteria: You must be able to play a musical instrument and/or sing confidently and competently in front of others. You are also required to audition. Literacy and numeracy requirements of NCEA Level 1 or equivalent.

About: If you are a drummer, a keyboard player or a bass player or have other musical talents such as guitar or vocals, this music course might be the qualification you need to give your career a boost.
You will develop your individual and band performance across many popular music styles and you’ll gain skills in live sound and recording, theory, song writing/composition and music management.

Qualification gained: Certificate in Contemporary Music Performance (Level 4)

Career pathways: Musician, singer, songwriter, sound engineering, teaching, band management, event management.

Facilities: UCOL has rehearsal rooms, computer mac suite for composing and theory along with classrooms where we relax and learn. Recording facilities on both campuses, with the centralised recording studio on the Palmerston North campus where the mastering suite is located. All students have opportunities to compose and record their music.

Entry criteria:

Applicants may be required to audition and sit a theory test. NCEA Level 3 (including literacy 10 credits at Level 2 and numeracy 10 credits at Level 1) (or equivalent academic achievements, or case-by-case basis at the discretion of the executive dean).

For applicants 20 years of age and over there are no minimum academic requirements.

About: If you have a qualification or experience in music performance, and are wishing to expand your skillset, study UCOL’s NZ Diploma in Creativity. You’ll gain skills and knowledge to effectively apply creative processes across a range of musical vocations and disciplines.
You will learn creative skills including: performance, composition and technology , music theory, creative industries, knowledge transfer, recording, design media.

Qualification: NZ Diploma in Creativity (Level 5)

Facilities: Recording studio. Mac suite.
